Getting Here

There are several options for travel to Sewanee. We are accessible from several major airports, and are also an easy drive from Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham, and Knoxville. Please note as you make arrangements that Sewanee is in the Central Time Zone.

Air Travel

Nashville

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is located approximately 1.5 hours away (90 miles). There is a shuttle option from BNA to Monteagle (click here for the booking site), where the conference hotel is located. There are also car rentals available at the airport. Many attendees find it convenient to have a car at the conference, as the hotels are some ways away from campus, and our rural locations means we do not have any ride sharing options in the area.

Chattanooga

Chattanooga Airport (CHA) is a small, regional airport approximately 50 mins (60 miles) from campus. However, there are not at present any shuttle options from Chattanooga to Sewanee, so you will need to either rent a car or arrange a carpool with other conference attendees. (Taxis are also not an option over this distance, and there is unfortunately no public transportation option up to the mountain.) Please also note: Chattanooga is in the Eastern Time Zone, whereas Sewanee is in the Central Time zone.

Farther Afield

Other airports in the region that might be useful are those in Birmingham (2.5 hours away), Atlanta (3 hours away) and Knoxville (3 hours away). If you have friends or relations near to these other travel hubs, they are within driving distance to the conference, with a car rental.

Driving Directions

  • From Nashville: Take I-24 East approximately 80 miles to Exit 134 (Sewanee/Monteagle). At the end of the exit ramp turn left on Highway 41A. (For directions from Monteagle, see below.)

  • From Chattanooga or Birmingham: Take I-24 West to Exit 134 (Sewanee/Monteagle). At the end of the exit ramp turn left on Highway 41A. (For directions from Monteagle, see below.)

  • From Monteagle: Once on 41A it will be approximately 4 miles to the stone gates that mark the entrance into the Domain (NOT the Sewanee St. Andrews gates, it is past them on 41A). Veer right according to the sign that indicates The University of the South. This is University Ave. Continue past the Sewanee Inn, and Convocation Hall will be directly on your left, at the blinking stoplight at Georgia Ave.

We will be providing shuttle service in the morning and evening to and from the main campus hotel in Monteagle on each day of the conference. Parking will also be available on campus during the conference.

Please note: because of our rural (and sparsely populated) location, there are no ride-sharing services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) available in our area. This is important to note so as not to be caught unawares once you arrive.
